This is part four of a series I am writing to catalyze change in the employment of our young people. I have assumed two things: 1. wage employment is limited, thus 10 applicants compete for just one position; and 2. self-employment has never been a big option because it is a cultural hurdle or, at best, unverified in the Filipino psyche as an option for income and wealth generation, with of course exemplary performance by big-time entrepreneurs.

As it were, technician and tutorial services are valid and respectable forms of self-employment in the same line as accountants who run businesses or management graduates who sell online.
Now, I tackle with our readers, job options for Criminologist Board passers and graduates who aren’t able to enter the Philippine police force, the military, or the burgeoning security agency industry.
Ideas attached to Criminologists are that they are good at crime-busting or solving crimes. But the better outlook is how to put their knowledge to good use in averting the occurrence of criminal elements or malefactors. Thus, with their scientific training on objective data gathering and interpreting, Criminologists can contract out their services with private companies, the media, and government offices with a big load of large files and online data.
Let’s call their services, reactive tracking or materials audit. How does this work? In delivery to private companies handling large stocks of merchandise, warehouse management and security is usually lax. The Criminologist is in a position to work with the inventory and sales clerk to safeguard the entry of goods into the warehouse and their release to buyers or customers. Target problem is the occurrence of theft or pilferage.
The same principle of reactive tracking and veracity audit can be applied in the media companies. In the era of fake news, a person well-trained in data gathering is to be considered an asset. I foresee the establishment of a media or news bureau in Cagayan Valley staffed by professionals coming from various disciplines and manned by Criminology Board passers.
In government offices, where the bulk of functions is management of clientele data, there is indeed the need for Data Security Managers for both online and steel cabinet files. On the other hand, Data Security Managers can effectively advise intermediate and middle managers on data ageing and leveraging with clientele needs. In terms of internal audit of the agency, the trained Criminology Board passer has a big slice of the job.
Payments as wages for contracting services is fixed by the private company or the government agency. But a 20% premium is usually given.
